Tsunami is the exact word to describe what cancer did to my life. It’s destructive and there’s no running away from it.
I was 35 when I received my breast cancer diagnosis last year. My doctors had hurried through my surgery and chemotherapy sessions, and within 6 months, I was done with surgery to remove the lump, 4 chemotherapy and 15 radiotherapy sessions.
How could I have gotten cancer so young? Then I started having flashbacks of eating fast foods for lunch and dinner and doing little exercise. That’s why.
Oh, my maternal grandmother and uncle had cancer too. It all makes sense now.
Honestly, I had been more prepared to have diabetes, which also runs in the family.
But nope, I had cancer instead.
And just like a tsunami, it overwhelms my life. It derailed my plans. For a moment, it put out the lights in my life.
